In support of Cebu’s fight against COVID-19, PLDT Inc., PLDT-Smart Foundation and Tulong Kapatid, in coordination with ZTE Corp. and Leads Agricultural Corp., donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face masks, disinfecting kits, and carboys of ethyl alcohol. Tulong Kapatid is the social responsibility consortium of the companies led by Manuel V. Pangilinan.

The group and its partners prioritized Cebu as it is one of the COVID-19 hot spots in the country due to the previous rise in its cases.

“We in PLDT-Smart Foundation and our partners are united in support of our frontliners. With the rise in COVID-19 cases in Cebu, we responded to the call of our colleagues in Smart to provide Personal Protective Equipment and other items necessary for the protection of our frontliners,” said PLDT-Smart Foundation President Esther Santos.

Boxes of face masks, PPE, disinfecting kits and carboys of ethyl alcohol were distributed to local hospitals, local government offices, media offices and schools in Cebu.

Among the recipients was Cebu Provincial Hospital-Bogo, which devoted close to half of its authorized bed capacity for COVID-19 patients.

“Our heart aches every time we learn that we have COVID cases here in Bogo. We are a very intimate community. We know almost everyone. As medical frontliners, we always make sure to protect ourselves in order to take care of our people,” said Dr. Zoraida Yurango, Chief of Hospital, Cebu Provincial Hospital-Bogo.

“Admittedly, there are days when our supplies easily run out. We are very thankful that a lot have showed their support for us, both the government and the private sectors. We are so blessed to have these people whose hearts are in the right place,” adds Dr. Yurango.

Another recipient of the donation is the Philippine Information Agency-Region 7. “We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the PLDT Group for its thoughtfulness to provide protective items for Cebu-based PIA personnel. Through the years, we share the same objective in wanting to develop resilient communities, especially in this time of pandemic,” said Fayette Riñen, Regional Head, PIA Regional Office 7.

Among recipients of the donations are the following: Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Cebu City Medical Center, Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital, Lapu Lapu City District Hospital, Cebu Provincial Hospital-Bogo City, Talisay City District Hospital, Minglanilla District Hospital, Carcar City District Hospital, Isidro C.
