PLDT-Smart turned over 10,000 LTE SIM cards to the Department of Education Cebu City, the biggest ever donation to the academe in the region, as their way of supporting teachers and students in over 50 Junior and Senior High Schools under DepEd Cebu City in the “New Normal.”
The unprecedented crisis caused by the pandemic has pushed the academe to adapt to the new normal in education and conduct classes via online or modular delivery. The Smart SIM cards will allow students and teachers to go online and connect to the internet via Smart LTE.
“This partnership is a gift that keeps on giving, and it has never ceased to amaze me. These SIM cards will help us ensure that our students and teachers are supported amid the pandemic. A lot of private institutions have expressed to extend their help to us but Smart was the first one to say yes. DepEd Cebu City Division is particularly thankful to Smart because the 10,000 SIM cards will go a very long way. On behalf of the 6,000 teachers and almost 500,000 students, thank you very much,” said Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, DepEd Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent.
“This partnership between Smart and DepEd Cebu City Division is in line with the direction of our Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan to ensure that there should be no learner left behind. When DepEd approached us about this partnership, gladly we said yes. We are donating 10,000 SIM cards to students, teachers of more than 50 schools here in Cebu. With that, we are looking forward for more partnerships. In fact, we have a lot of things ongoing right now for the schools. We are praying that this crisis will be over soon so we could go back to our old ways. But until then, we assure you that Smart will be here,” said Alexis Winters, AVP/Center Head of PLDT-Smart Regional Customer Development Visayas.
