Tabal gets reinstated to national team.

CEBUANA marathoner Mary Joy Tabal can now compete in the Rio Olympics after she was reinstated to the Philippine national team yesterday. Tabal, who qualified for the Rio Olympics after meeting the standard in the Scottiabank Ottawa Marathon last May 29, resigned from the national team last year. She met officials of the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association last Monday to discuss her reinstatement.

We have long wanted to protect Mary Joy and we have questioned her racing schedule and its effects on her ability to sustain steady improvements over time. However, we also recognize that she qualified on her own. We put our differences aside, we reinstated her and we have allowed her to follow her training program despite our concerns. And we hope for the best in Rio for the nation. Patafa’s statement on Tabal’s reinstatement.

Councilor fights back, files kidnapping charges vs. Margot.

For allegedly ordering the detention of Labangon councilman Rodulfo Tabasa, Acting Cebu City mayor Margot Osmena, along with seven other officials, are facing charges for unlawful arrest, kidnapping and serious illegal detention. Tabasa was picked last Friday night by officials of the General Services Office, who were accompanied by policemen, and was detained until Saturday afternoon. Tabasa was one of the barangay officials who did not heed Osmena’s memo to return the city-issued vehicles for an inventory.
