Branded goods that range from industrial items and furniture to electronics and gadgets sold at 20 to 50 percent off their regular prices are now available to Cebuanos at the newly-opened HMR Trading Haus inside the SM Hypermart in Mandaue City.

The HMR Trading Haus in Cebu, which held its grand opening last Saturday, October 7, is the first in the Visayas and Mindanao and the 16th in the Philippines, said marketing head Sharlene Powell.

According to Powell, many of their items are good-as-new surplus from big retail outlets in the US, Europe, and Australia.

“Sixty percent of our products are sourced abroad, from excess inventories and overruns of such leading retail stores as Costco, Walmart and Target,” she added.

Quality surplus items

The HMR Trading Haus in Cebu carries items like Fitbit watches priced at around P2,000, Timex GPS watches ranging from P1,000 to P3,00 plus, Kahla flatware and 16-piece dinnerware sets for less than a thousand, mountain bikes for around P8,000, generator set and washing machines for less than P20,000, and other items at discounted prices. Powell said a research team from HMR found store prices to lower by 20 to 50 percent compared to other establishments.

HMR’s wide range of products include industrial items, home and office furniture, audio and video equipment, electronics and gadgets, sporting goods, branded apparel as well as toys and novelty items.

Aside from surplus or overruns from major retailers, it also sells secondhand goods acquired from big establishments that closed down.

Powell said their biggest project was pulling out the Mandarin Oriental Manila, acquiring everything from the carpets to the furniture and artworks and reselling these at HMR Trading Haus branches.

Cebu market

“Our clients are mainly the AB market. They’re business owners and people looking for value for money,” she added.

Powell said HMR used to operate a store in Cebu in the early 1990’s but closed it after four years to focus on Luzon, especially in the Manila area. HMR’s other branches in the Philippines are spread out from Manila to Batangas.

She added that HMR has returned to Cebu after a long time because it is now ready to cater to the Cebuano market.

“With the Christmas season just around the corner, we hope to offer Cebuanos the best deals from our international network of retail sources. There is something for all budgets at HMR,” Cebu branch manager Rex Refuerzo said in a prepared statement.
