A few days after opening day, Yakimix Cebu is filled with diners attracted to its wide buffet selection.

Robert Chua, Yakimix Cebu owner, said they offer the biggest and only smokeless grill buffet in Cebu City at a very affordable price.

The newly opened Yakimix branch at Capitol Square, Escario St., Cebu City is the first in Cebu but the 13th nationwide, said regional manager Chito Manlapaz. There are already 10 branches in Manila plus one each in the cities of General Santos and Davao.

There are 150 to 200 dishes of mostly Asian food, specifically Cantonese, Korean, Japanese and Filipino, in the Yakimix buffet, he added.

Yakimix Cebu buffet rates

Yakimix Cebu buffet rates are very affordable at P499 for lunch and P599 for dinner from Monday to Friday and P599 for both lunch and dinner during weekends and public holidays, said Chua. Your lunch or dinner already comes with bottomless drinks.

According to Manlapaz, the restaurant accepts reservations and can seat a maximum of 250 people. It has a function room that can accommodate 36 diners.

Yakimix is open from 11:30 am to 3 pm and 5:30 pm to 11 pm, Manlapaz said.

Hong Kong chefs Tony Lao, the executive chef, and Ken Diao – whose specialties are Cantonese or traditional Chinese food – take charge of the Yakimix kitchen and ensure that every dish is prepared just right.

Competitive advantage

The name Yakimix is taken from the Japanese word “yakiniku” which refers to grilled meat dishes and “mix” or to put together. It describes the fusion of Asian cuisine that makes up the Yakimix buffet, explained Chua.

Chua said the Yakimix Cebu branch is his first venture in the restaurant business. His company, which supplies fruits and vegetables for the restaurant chain, partnered with the Yakimix owners to put up the branch in Cebu.

He added that his business is related to the restaurant business and even gives him a competitive advantage over his competitors.

WIDE SELECTION. Yakimix offers a wide selection for its buffet.

The reason why they can afford to offer the Yakimix buffet at such an affordable price is because they source food ingredients directly from suppliers, Chua said.

“Our seafood, for example, is from Pasil. Since we buy from the suppliers directly, we have to go there at 2 a.m. If we rely on delivery, the supply would be more expensive. It’s hard but it makes our food more affordable,” he cited.

Since opening on Saturday, May 16, 2015, Chua they already have a minimum of 450 diners daily.
