Aside from joining a worthwhile cause, participants of the 10th Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness this Saturday, Oct. 19, will be treated to a night of songs by Cebu’s home-grown talents.

Child singer Patricia Izabel Chua will go first with two songs after a mini-documentary (Opaw) and an “infomercial” about breast cancer.

She would be followed by girl band Syphone, winner of the She Rocks band contest; dance sensation F the Prime of X from the University of the Philippines-Cebu; acoustic singer Noel Villarba and company; dance number by Cebu Cancer Fight Inc. cancer survivors; and Visayas Popular Music Festival winner Jewel Flores.

Moonwalk is a unique collective advocacy campaign focused on early screening and detection of breast cancer through monthly breast self-examination and mammography, especially for women aged 20 and beyond.

RAFI-EJACC is selling advocacy shirts to support the breast cancer awareness campaign.

The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC) of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) calls on the public to take part in this massive awareness campaign, which will be highlighted this year with a walk from Fuente Osmeña Circle to Plaza Independecia.

Assembly time is 5 p.m. at the Fuente Osmeña Circle. The walk starts at 6 p.m. right after a brief program, which includes a first-hand account on what it is like to have the disease by breast cancer survivor Filemona Sy.

City Councilor Leah Japson, head of the council committee on health and women and children, would also deliver a solidarity message at the Fuente Osmeṅa Circle.

Also, RAFI-EJACC would like to reiterate that a half-lane closure will be implemented by the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) on Osmeña Boulevard on Oct. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is to give way to Moonwalk participants.

An addition to this year’s event is the “pinkiest” costume contest Pink Yourself Up!, which is open to all Moonwalk participants. Mechanics can be viewed at the RAFI website.

RAFI-EJACC is also selling advocacy shirts to support the campaign.

Moonwalk is organized by RAFI-EJACC in partnership with the Cebu City Government and Task Force Cancer of Cebu City. It is also supported by Cebu Cancer Fight Inc., I CAN SERVE Foundation, She Matters, and CAN with GOD.
