US-based company Organique unveiled Tuesday its triathlon team as part of a marketing effort to spread word on the benefits of its acai berry-based health drink.

The company, founded in 2008 by couple Joseph and Catherine Salimbangon, bottles and distributes a health drink based on the acai berry.

“Aca berries are considered superfood, a term used to describe nutrient-rich food that is good for one’s health,” the company said.

During the unveiling of the team, Organique marketing director Lerma Mendoza touted the health benefits of the acai berry and their drink supplement. The berry, which grows in the Amazon River, has a high concentration of anti-oxidants that can offer a myriad of health benefits, Mendoza said.

ACAI BERRY DRINK. Organique touts its acai berry drink as having a myriad of health benefits. It is available in Watsons, Mercury Drug, 7Eleven and Landers Superstore. Its latest product is the freeze dried acai capsule.

Boost wellness

She said the acai berry helps improve one’s health and boosts overall wellness.

Ms. Salimbangon, on the other hand, assured consumers of the highest quality of their products. She used to work as a nurse in the US before she decided to embark on the business with her husband, an IT professional.

She said they were already drinking acai berry and were convinced of its health benefits that’s why they decided to turn it into a business.

As one way to help market the product, Organique decided to sponsor a triathlon team. The Organique Triathlon Team has 18 members – local athletes mostly with day jobs. Its members compete individually or as a team in various events.

This early, the team has already made its mark, finishing 3rd overall against the country’s top teams during the Dipolog 104 Triathlon. They are competing in future races all over the country, notably the coming Ironman event in Cebu.

Members of the team said they benefit from their regular drinking of Organique Acai Berry.

Traditional Philippine dances like the tinikling, pandanggo sa ilaw, palayok, Polynesian-inspired performances, and an impressive fire show marked the debut of the Pasundayag cultural night at Skywaterpark Cebu on June 2, 2017.

Simon Yang, Skywaterpark vice president, said the cultural show will now be a weekly event, held every Friday night, and include a scrumptious dinner buffet with steak, lechon, and a salad station.

EVERY FRIDAY, traditional Philippine dances will be performed at the Skywaterpark.

Yang said that when he came to Cebu for the first time, he wanted to experience the local culture. Skywaterpark came up with the event to provide a venue where foreign visitors can see and appreciate traditional songs and dances.

He added that they’ve come to realize that local guests also love watching ethnic performances because these bring back memories of schooldays when they knew the dances by heart.

A very important feature in the show, according to Yang, is letting guests participate by teaching them the tinikling or the pandanggo.

Cultural show, dinner buffet

He said part of the plan is to eventually hold the cultural show thrice weekly. Skywaterpark, located at the sixth floor of JCentre Mall, can accommodate 250 to 300 guests for the cultural night.

The cultural show with dinner buffet has regular rate of P3,000 but Skywaterpark currently has a special promo for locals at only P1,500. It does not include the use of the waterpark.

Skywaterpark Cebu currently holds a pool party every Saturday night and Sunday brunch for families with a host of activities for kids. Yang said they’re thinking of themes for the other days as well.

Skywaterpark Cebu day use rate is P1,000 net for adults and P900 net for kids 12 years old and below. Use of the waterpark facilities is from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Beautiful portraits, said fashion and beauty photographer Sara Black, “reveal untold stories.”

To improve your portraits, Black offers these tips: use lighting and consider the quality, direction, and color of the light; look for a good facial angle and ask the subject which she or he considers the best; take into account body dynamic, follow composition rules but feel free to break these, connect with your subject, and have your own style.

Black held a short workshop on mobile portrait photography at the Chateau de Busay in Lahug last June 1. The Behind Portrait Photography workshop was held to showcase the superior image quality of the Huawei P10.

Huawei Philippines marketing director Corinne Bacani gave a detailed introduction to the P10 and P10 Plus during the event. Using the phone is like having a “photo studio in your pocket,” she said in her introduction.

“Make every shot a cover shot,” was how Huawei highlighted its camera, which was co-engineered with iconic brand Leica.

The front or selfie camera is also a Leica, the first among phones. This allows the selfie camera to capture “2X more light” and “amazing self-portraits, whether day or night.”

“The Huawei P10 even senses groufies and automatically switches to wide-angle shots when more people enter the picture,” the company said.

Leica dual camera

The rear camera, however, is what makes the P10 stand out among flagship phones.

“The new Leica Dual Camera 2.0 uses precise 3D facial detection, dynamic illumination, and natural portrait enhancements to produce stunning artistic portrait shots in Leica image style,” the company said.

The P10 has a Leica Dual Camera 2.0 while the P10 Plus has a Leica Dual Camera 1.0 Pro Edition.

It has an easy option to do photo bokeh, where the subject stands out because the background is rendered blurred or out of focus while taking the shot. The bokeh options can be finely controlled in the P10 while taking the shot.

Trendy colors

Black showcased these as well as other outstanding imaging features of the phone in her talk.

“The most iconic portraits are defined by outstanding lighting and clarity of details. Working as a lifestyle photographer for many years now, I always place a premium on how these two elements are reflected in every shot I make, and the Huawei P10 makes this very convenient. They instantly give dramatic touches to every photo, revealing interesting stories or realities of every subject that are rarely captured even through words,” Black said.

The P10 comes in trendy colors, generated with the help of Pantone, like Dazzling Blue, Prestige Gold, Graphite Black, and Greenery.

Not only does the phone have formidable tech specs, it uses machine learning algorithms to make applications open and run faster, said Bacani.

Nissan Philippines opened its latest dealership Nissan Cebu South and patterns it after a global design standard to enhance the experience of Cebuano customers.

The Nissan Cebu South on Highway Linao,Talisay City is the 4th showroom in the Philippines that’s compliant with the Nissan Retail Environment Design Initiative (NREDI) 2.1. developed by Nissan Motor Co. for its global dealership network.

“In the past year, the Nissan brand has grown significantly in the region of Cebu,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, president and director of Nissan Philippines Inc.

“To continue to support this growth, we are very excited to be opening a new NREDI compliant dealership in the south, allowing us to enhance our Cebuano customers’ experience with the Nissan brand.”

NREDI 2.1, brought to Cebu with the opening of Nissan Cebu South through the Gateway Group, adds a number of stand-out features to the showroom. These include a spacious interior layout and trailblazing styling. An iconic Red Tablet showcases the exciting vehicles and technologies on display inside.

The lounge is also carpeted, furnished with cozy seats and a dropped timber ceiling with lights. Refreshments are also available at the Refuel Bar, adding to the environment’s premium feel.

Consultation spaces

The consultation area, with its semi-private offices separated by glass walls, are specially designed for customer and advisor engagement. The space offers customers privacy but promotes brand transparency at the same time.

Customers can now have an open experience with dealership advisors, thanks to the roomy new interiors and comfortable seats and tables.

A new addition to the showroom is the parts and accessories boutique. Here, guests are encouraged to browse and shop while waiting for their vehicle at the service bay.

The service car reception area is equipped with service write-up pods to enable one-on-one interactions between customers and their advisors. The presence of digital screens in the area allows service customers to see the menu of available services and promotions, promoting even more transparency with customers.

Premier delivery

The premier delivery area creates a truly celebratory experience for customers. During the new vehicle delivery process, the car is unveiled with a red curtain and focal halo lighting to excite and delight the customer. The presence of mirrored glass doors enables customers to see themselves with their new cars.

In celebration of this year’s Mother’s Day, Oakridge Business Park held a SUPER MOMMIES Movie Day Out last May 14, at the Oakridge Pavilion, an event that gave mothers and kids and opportunity to bond over movie.

The afternoon activity, which gathered close to 90 moms and their kids, was a tribute for mothers of children with special needs including kids with cancer, autism, and wheelchair-dependent, among other physical disabilities. The activity aims to celebrate the strength, tenacity and resourcefulness of the mothers for having raised these children.

Oakridge with its partner organizations — Kythe Foundation; Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (PADS), particularly the disabled-people’s organization Kapunongan Alang sa May Kabilinggan sa Cordova; and Saint Martin de Porres Special School — treated these “super moms” and their kids to free popcorn, ice cream, hotdogs, and refreshments, all while watching the animated film, Brave.

“This will be a Mother’s Day that the moms here will never forget. Because their time is mostly consumed with taking care of their child’s needs, they often forget to relax so this event is a welcome treat for them,” Tano said.

The grand event also celebrates the special relationship that exists between pets and their owners. “Parkmall is a family-oriented mall. Now on its second year, the Pet Festival Philippines on May 11-14 will gather different kinds of pets for 4 days of pet-centered exhibits and competitions to be participated by all the pet clubs, leading pet shops and animal welfare organizations, making it the biggest and most diverse assembly of its kind not just in Cebu, but in the country as well.

Marking the official start of the festival on May 12 at 2PM will be a panel discussion on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership with representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agriculture, Island Rescue Organization (IRO), and Animal Wellness Veterinary Clinic.

Parkmall’s Pawshionista, Cebu’s first and most fabulous fashion competition for pets, returns with two categories: one for dogs and another for cats. This year’s theme is Summer in Bloom where participating pets will strut the runway in their floral summer wear on May 13.

This year, Parkmall is co-organizing the 1st Cebu Dog Road Run together with the K9 CARE (Cebu Agility Run Enthusiast) Dog Sport, and the 1st Royal Canin Dog Sport Challenge, three days of competitions for dogs which include the 6th Cebu Dog Sport National Competition and the 2nd Dog Agility Championship.

Race challenge

Another event highlight is Cebu’s first race challenge for dogs and their humans, the Great Pet Adventure Race in which teams of three dog and human pairs compete to accomplish the tasks in different stations around the mall in the shortest time possible.

Pet Festival Philippines will also be marked by a host of other fun activities and competitions such as the Phone Photography Contest, Creative Dry-Grooming Competition, Pet Parade, All-Breed Fun Match, United Hamster Aficionados’ Hamster Relay Race, and the Philippine Serama Competition.

The event will be for the benefit of the Island Rescue Organization (IRO), a non-profit group that rescues and rehabilitates aspins and puspins before putting them up for adoption every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month as part of Parkmall’s regular Dog Walk. IRO has been the mall’s partner in all of its pet-centered events.

In 2016, Parkmall was accredited by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) as an animal control facility, which means that the entire Parkmall property is safe and conducive for pets. Parkmall is the only mall in Cebu to be accredited as such by BAI. This prompted Parkmall to make the move to go beyond just being pet-friendly and to recognize itself as Cebu’s only pet-loving mall as it continues to understand and cater to the needs of the pets and the pet-loving community. Known for its top-class business reputation, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu showed its fun side in a summertime party aptly named Drink, Dance, & Dip at the hotel’s El Viento Restaurant and Pool Bar.

Guests were treated to free-flowing summer cocktails, dancing music, and smoky barbecue dishes.

The fun event was set up by the side of the pool with its inviting crystal blue water that was just too difficult to resist. Many gave in to the temptation of a refreshing dip.

Lara Scarrow, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu Director of Sales and Marketing, said the event served to highlight the El Viento Restaurant and Pool Bar that often gets overlooked because of their reputation as a business hotel.

She added that they want to show guests this part of the hotel where they can relax, dine, drink, and even take a swim. The Cafe Marco buffet already includes free use of the pool so families and friends can have fun after dining at the restaurant.

Earlier, hosts Paulo Varela and Maria Gigante mentioned that some prizes were hidden in the pool and indeed before the night ended, all prizes were found and claimed. They included two-night stays at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila and Marco Polo Davao. Thrown in for good measure were gift certificates for El Viento Restaurant and Pool Bar.

Flow Arts Cebu provided entertainment in the form of amazing fire dances. One such performance was held at the bar’s roof to the delight of party guests.

Towards the end of the evening, awards were given out for Best Half-Dressed lady and gentleman. The winners were Patty Taboada with her sexy cut-out one piece from Cesa and Neil San Pedro with his laid back and chill get-up. Indeed, it was a summer party like no other with about 200 guests enjoying Drink, Dance & Dip.

She added that as the brand marks the start of another decade, it comes out with a wide range of products that now includes a whole new category of footwear.

According to her, the new Fitflop products are super light, anatomically contoured to cover the feet and have front and back cushioning, and come in a host of beautiful bold and bright colors. This is made possible by Fitflop’s all-new trademark iQushion technology, which is a micro-bubble foam impact cushion.

Fitflop has sold over 35 million pairs of shoes and is now in 63 countries, added Barnes, citing that the whole idea of the brand was about empowering women.

“Our founder Marcia Kilgore, she’s really our original superwoman. She strongly believes in supporting women from the ground up with great footwear,” Barnes said.

Brand milestones

FitFlop regional brand manager Melody Tanjimenez said the brand celebrates several milestones in 2017: its 10th year anniversary, launch of the Spring-Summer Collection, a million Facebook followers just in Southeast Asia alone.

She added that the brand’s growth was an incredible milestone especially since it only had a small following in Multiply when it started in 2007.

“They believed in the brand and we were able to build the brand to what it is today through them,” Tanjimenez also said.

#ForSuperwomen. The company brought in the Southeast Asian winners of the #ForSuperwomen promo, a social media contest that asked Fitflop lovers to nominate the superwomen in their lives, to the regional launch of the #SuperwomenNights in Manila in March.

Tanjimenez said the Primer Group of Companies, which distributes the Fitflop brands in Southeast Asia, also has its own milestones.

The first Fitflop free standing store it opened back in 2010 at the SM Mall of Asia has grown to 30 stores across its Southeast Asian markets.

“She (Thurman) absolutely embodies strength, confidence, total control. She is also a multitasking mother of three and represents iconic characters on stage,” she further said.

It also brought in the Southeast Asian winners of the #ForSuperwomen promo, a social media contest that asked Fitflop lovers to nominate the superwomen in their lives, to the regional launch of the #SuperwomenNights in Manila.

Philippines AirAsia launched new flights from Cebu to the Philippine summer destinations of Palawan and Boracay, celebrating the new routes with a seat sale that’s available for booking until April 30, 2017.

Beginning yesterday, April 22, AirAsia also resumed and added flights from Cebu to Davao. From Cebu, the airlines now flies twice daily to Davao and daily to Palawan and Boracay via Caticlan.

The first trip from Cebu to Davao left at 4:45 in the morning yesterday, Saturday, followed by the 12:10 p.m. to Caticlan and the 6:45 p.m. to Puerto Princesa in Palawan.

The first AirAsia flight from Davao for Cebu took off at 10:40 a.m., also on April 22, with Monreal as operating pilot. He was assisted by Captain Bernardino Perez and flight officer Leonardo Orendain.

The event is organized by Aboitizland to support Lapu-Lapu City’s celebration of the Kadaugan sa Mactan or Victory in Mactan, which commemorates the historic battle between chieftain Lapu-Lapu and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.

She added that event exhibitors are still accepted but they should be Mactan-based companies.

At least 10 establishments, majority of which are resorts, have agreed to participate in The Great Lapu-Lapu Blowout.
